Vita Roofing recently completed a full roof replacement in Grand Forks, ND, for homeowner Scott, upgrading his home with premium IKO Dynasty Shingles designed to handle North Dakota’s demanding weather. This installation featured a Class 3 impact-rated shingle system, offering enhanced durability against hail and high winds, an essential upgrade for homeowners in the Red River Valley. IKO Dynasty shingles also include built-in algae resistance, increased thickness, an upgraded tar strip, and a reinforced nailing zone, delivering long-lasting performance and superior curb appeal.
The roof replacement process began with thorough site protection, including tarps to safeguard landscaping and contain debris. Vita Roofing removed the existing roofing system down to the decking, performed a detailed inspection, and replaced any soft or damaged decking as needed. For added protection, the team installed two rows of Tri-Built Ice & Water Shield on all eaves and one row in the valleys, followed by TRI-BUILT synthetic roofing underlayment across the remaining roof surface. Aluminum drip edge was installed along the entire perimeter to ensure proper water shedding and protect the fascia from moisture intrusion.
To complete the system, Vita Roofing installed Tri-Built starter shingles along all eaves and rakes to prevent wind uplift, followed by the IKO Dynasty shingles secured with ring shank coil nails for higher wind resistance. Proper ventilation, penetration flashings, and IKO Hip & Ridge shingles were added to ensure long-term roof performance and attic airflow. The project concluded with a meticulous cleanup, leaving Scott’s Grand Forks home with a durable, weather-resistant roofing system backed by expert craftsmanship. This project showcases why homeowners trust Vita Roofing for professional roof replacement services in Grand Forks, ND.
Scott, a Grand Forks, ND homeowner, reached out to Vita Roofing, looking to refresh and protect their home after years of exposure to North Dakota’s unforgiving weather. Decades of hailstorms, heavy snow, driving rain, and strong winds had taken a toll on the roof, leaving it worn and unreliable. A detailed inspection uncovered widespread shingle deterioration, compromised decking, and aging underlayment that could no longer provide adequate protection.
Once the old roofing materials were removed, the full scope of the damage became clear. Several decking boards required replacement, and our team carefully sealed and reinforced those areas to create a solid foundation for the new roof. As part of our commitment to long-term durability, we installed a double layer of ice and water barrier to guard against moisture intrusion during freeze-thaw cycles. Here, we showcase the removal of the old roof, underlayment, and the installation of the new ice & water shield.
With the new roofing system in place, the home now has both a refreshed appearance and the strength to withstand Grand Forks’ harsh climate. This roof replacement delivers lasting protection and peace of mind, backed by Vita Roofing’s attention to detail and dedication to quality craftsmanship.
When Jenna reached out about her roof, she knew it was going to be a large project. The home required a full replacement, including both pitched and flat roofing sections. Using a structured, system-focused approach similar to what you’ll find at Vita Roofing, we mapped out every phase before work began.
We started by setting up protective tarps around Jenna’s home to shield landscaping and surrounding ground structures while containing debris. The existing roofing system was completely removed down to the decking to ensure no hidden issues were left behind. After a thorough inspection, we replaced any soft or deteriorated decking to provide a strong foundation. The pitched roof areas were upgraded with IKO Dynasty shingles, Class 3 impact-rated with built-in algae resistance, an upgraded tar strip, reinforced nailing strip, and increased thickness for enhanced durability and wind protection.
A large portion of Jenna’s home required a flat roofing system, so we installed a complete EPDM assembly including EPDM membrane, edge metal, screws and plates, bonding adhesive, and tapered Poly ISO foam for proper drainage. We also addressed key finishing details, including two skylights (removal and replacement as needed), a sun tunnel, pipe boots, and ½” HD Poly ISO insulation. Jenna now has a fully integrated roofing system built for long-term performance and peace of mind.
When Jenna decided it was time to replace her large flat roof section, she prioritized a roofing solution known for long-term durability, weather resistance, and performance. Following the same flat roofing expertise offered by Vita Roofing, we selected a high-quality EPDM membrane roofing system, a proven flat roof membrane made from synthetic rubber that provides excellent protection across broad, low-slope surfaces. The EPDM membrane came in large sheets that were securely bonded to her roof’s substrate, creating a continuous, resilient barrier against water and environmental exposure.
The installation began with a careful preparation of the existing deck, ensuring it was clean, uniform, and ready to accept the new membrane. EPDM’s flexibility allowed it to adhere smoothly over the tapered poly ISO foam insulation, helping with proper drainage while maintaining a seamless surface. Because EPDM membranes are inherently resistant to extreme weather, UV radiation, and ozone exposure, and are designed to remain flexible even in variable temperatures, Jenna’s new flat roof is built to withstand decades of service with minimal maintenance.
Throughout the project, every detail of the EPDM system was addressed with precision, from edge metal and bonding adhesive application to mechanical fasteners and plates that secure the membrane. This single-ply membrane not only ensures strong waterproofing but also aligns with what flat roof specialists recommend for long-lasting, cost-effective flat roof replacements, giving Jenna confidence that her home is protected by one of the most reliable flat roofing systems available.
In late spring, Vita Roofing arrived at Kevin’s home in Detroit Lakes, MN, to begin the EPDM roof replacement process. The crew started by pressure-washing the existing roof surface to remove dirt, old adhesives, and built-up debris. After the roof was completely cleaned and dried, the current edge metal was carefully removed, and the deck was inspected to ensure it was structurally sound. Once cleared, a ½-inch HD board was installed across the surface, creating a smooth and stable foundation for the new membrane system.
With the base properly prepared, the crew unrolled the EPDM membrane and allowed it to relax and settle into place. A high-strength bonding adhesive was applied to both the HD board and the underside of the membrane. Once the adhesive became tacky, the EPDM was carefully laid into position and smoothed to eliminate air pockets or wrinkles. Screws and plates were used to mechanically secure the system, ensuring long-term stability. Special attention was paid to roof penetrations, where properly sized penetration flashings were installed to create watertight seals around vents, pipes, and any other protrusions.
Once the membrane and flashings were in place, new edge metal was installed around the perimeter to complete the system and give the roof a clean, finished appearance. Before leaving the job site, Vita Roofing conducted a full walk-through with Kevin, inspecting seams, flashings, and terminations for quality and performance. The result was a seamless, uniform EPDM roof built to withstand Detroit Lakes’ changing weather and harsh winters, offering Kevin long-term protection, efficiency, and peace of mind.
