Roof Replacement Photo Album: Summit Grey Asphalt Shingle Replacement in Grand Forks, ND | Roof Installation Company
North Dakota weather is hard on a roof. For Kenneth, a Grand Forks homeowner, the latest storm made that clear. His home was built in 2005, and the storm left the shingles on its roof damaged. At about 4,500 square feet, the house has a lot of roof to protect, and he didn’t want to wait for a small problem to turn into a leak.
Kenneth called Vita Roofing for a full storm-damaged roof replacement. We removed the old roofing and built a new system using the Klaus Roofing Way. That means we reinforce each layer of the roof: decking, synthetic underlayment, starter strips, flashing, shingles, and ventilation.
The shingles: Kenneth chose IKO Dynasty architectural shingles, backed by a Limited Lifetime warranty, in Summit Grey. It’s a clean, modern color that suits a larger home, and the deep shadow lines of the shingle add dimension to the roofline. Dynasty shingles also have a woven ArmourZone nailing surface, which resists tearing and helps hold up against wind uplift and nail pull-through.
The details: We installed a white Quality Edge 2x2 steel gutter apron drip edge to guide water away from the fascia and into the gutters. We also installed a 12" aluminum BIB whirlybird turbine vent in black, with internal bracing, to improve attic airflow. When the job was done, we cleaned up the work area thoroughly.

Replacement of rotted decking
Once we removed the old, storm-damaged shingles, we turned our attention to replacing all rotted decking.
Chimney brick damage
The chimney will need to be re-finished, and new flashing installed
Worn away aspahlt
The roof was covered with several shingles that resembled this section of asphalt.
Shingles are lifting
With the shingles starting to separate, this will allow moisture to penetrate the underlayment and eventually damage the decking.
Gutter damage
No gutter guards and exposure to the elements will cause the metal to corrode
Time to start the roofing project
Kenneth requested that we replace the old, worn-down shingles with IKO Dynasty in Summit Grey.
Removing the shingles
The roofing team at Vita Roofing is starting to take down the roofing. After this is completed, we will inspect the decking and replace any boards that need it.
Installing the underlayment
After removing the old shingles and replacing any necessary decking, we installed the underlayment to ensure the roof remained weather-proofed.
Asphalt is now installed
The roof replacement is almost complete.
