Expert Roofer Serving the Grand Forks Area

After a major storm, many homeowners wonder if their roof can be saved or needs a full replacement. Kenneth, who owns a 2005-built home of roughly 4,500 square feet in Grand Forks, faced that question. Once his shingles were storm-damaged, the best option was a complete replacement. Here is how the process works with Vita Roofing.

1. Assess the damage. Storm damage is not always obvious from the ground. Missing or lifted shingles, granule loss, and weakened edges can all let water in. A professional inspection shows how far the damage goes. If you plan to file a claim, Vita Roofing also offers insurance claims assistance.

2. Choose your materials. Kenneth selected IKO Dynasty shingles in Summit Grey, backed by a Limited Lifetime warranty. Their tear-resistant ArmourZone nailing surface improves resistance to wind uplift and nail pull-through, which are common causes of storm failures.

3. Replace the whole system. Our crew removes the old roofing and installs new decking where needed, along with synthetic underlayment, starter strips, flashing, shingles, and ventilation. This is the Klaus Roofing Way: quality at every layer, seam, and juncture.

4. Finish the details. We added a white Quality Edge 2x2 steel gutter apron to manage water at the roof edge, and a black 12" aluminum BIB turbine vent, internally braced, for attic airflow.

5. Clean up and confirm. We clean the property thoroughly and back it with our No-Nail Pledge: $1 for every nail found after cleanup, up to $100.

The result is a roof that looks sharp and is built for North Dakota weather.

When a severe storm tore through Grand Forks, ND, the homeowners of this one-story, single-family home found missing shingles and granules washing into the yard. The house was built in 1964, and its original roofing had already gone through decades of North Dakota winters. The storm damage was the last straw. They called Vita Roofing for a free estimate, and the inspection confirmed that a full asphalt shingle roof replacement was the right fix, not another patch.

Our crew tore off the old roofing and rebuilt the system using The Klaus Roofing Way. The new roof is IKO Dynasty architectural asphalt shingles in Brownstone, chosen for their water resistance, severe weather resistance, and dimensional look. We installed Quality Edge 2x2 painted white steel gutter apron drip edge along the eaves and rakes to guide water away from the fascia and decking. The existing Velux skylight was re-flashed to keep water out around the opening.

To finish the job, we added a 12" aluminum Whirlybird BIB turbine, internally braced with a 3" pipe jack, to improve attic ventilation. Better airflow helps manage moisture and heat in the attic through Grand Forks’ extreme seasons. We also cleaned up thoroughly and backed the work with our No-Nail Pledge. The homeowners now have a durable new roof, and our free estimates are open to any Grand Forks homeowner dealing with storm damage.

Grand Forks homeowners know that a roof doesn't get a chance to age gracefully in North Dakota. The combination of heavy snow loads, ice damming, spring hail, and dramatic temperature swings from January to July puts asphalt shingles under pressure that roofs in milder climates simply don't experience. When Scott's original green shingles finally gave out, faded, lifted, and worn well past the point of repair, Vita Roofing arrived with a system designed specifically for this region.

As a Klaus Larsen dealer based in Fargo, Vita Roofing installs roofing systems using the Klaus Roofing Way, a process-driven approach that treats every layer of the roof as part of an integrated system rather than individual components.

For this Grand Forks replacement, that meant IKO Dynasty shingles with Class 3 impact resistance and built-in algae protection, VeloraONE four-layer synthetic underlayment, and SealoronXT Extreme Temperature ice and water shield, a product engineered exclusively for Klaus Roofing systems to handle the freeze-thaw cycles that are a fact of life across the northern Plains. IKO hip and ridge cap and new chimney flashing rounded out a complete, no-shortcuts installation. For homeowners across Grand Forks, Fargo, and the surrounding region looking for a roofing contractor who understands what North Dakota actually does to a roof, Vita Roofing brings both the right materials and the right process to every job.

Jenna knew her roof had reached the end of its lifespan, and with both pitched and flat sections involved, this was no small job. Inspired by the thorough roofing methods highlighted by Vita Roofing, we focused on precision, durability, and complete system integration.

We began by protecting Jenna’s property with tarps to safeguard landscaping and exterior structures. The entire roof was then torn off down to the decking to eliminate any underlying issues. After inspecting the decking, we replaced any soft or rotten sections to restore structural stability. On the sloped portions, we installed IKO Dynasty shingles featuring Class 3 impact resistance, built-in algae resistance, upgraded tar strips, reinforced nailing zones, and increased thickness for long-lasting performance.

For the expansive flat section, we installed a full EPDM roofing system with membrane, edge metal, fastening screws and plates, bonding adhesive, and tapered Poly ISO foam to promote positive drainage. We also addressed every detail, from the two skylights and pipe boots to the sun tunnel and ½” HD Poly ISO insulation. The finished result gives Jenna confidence that her home is protected by a cohesive, high-performance roofing system built to last.

After years of battling North Dakota’s extreme weather, this Grand Forks home needed more than minor repairs; it needed a full roof replacement. The homeowner contacted Vita Roofing after noticing signs of deterioration caused by constant exposure to snow loads, hail impact, wind damage, and seasonal moisture. Our inspection confirmed significant shingle failure, weakened decking, and underlayment issues that made replacement the safest solution.

As we removed the existing roof, hidden damage was revealed beneath the surface. Multiple decking boards had to be replaced to restore the roof’s structural integrity, and each section was properly sealed to prevent future issues. Staying true to Vita Roofing’s standards, we installed a double-layer ice and water barrier, adding an extra line of defense against ice dams and water infiltration.

The finished roof not only transformed the home’s exterior but also delivered dependable protection built for Grand Forks’ toughest conditions. With quality materials and proven installation methods, this new roof is designed to perform for years to come.

Mike owned a commercial building on the edge of town and started to worry when ponding water and cracking seams began showing up after heavy rains. Unsure whether repairs would be enough, he reached out to Vita Roofing for guidance. Our team inspected the roof, explained the underlying issues in plain language, and recommended a modern EPDM flat roofing solution that would better withstand temperature swings and reduce ongoing maintenance concerns.

After moving forward, the crew scheduled the project efficiently and prepared the site to keep disruptions minimal. The old roofing materials were removed, the roof surface was properly built up for drainage and insulation, and the new EPDM system was carefully installed and sealed. Fresh perimeter edging completed the look, giving the building a clean, professional finish. By the end of the project, Mike had a reliable, energy-efficient flat roof and confidence knowing it was built to perform for the long haul.

When Scott of Grand Forks, ND needed a dependable roof replacement, he chose Vita Roofing to install IKO Dynasty shingles, a smart upgrade designed for strength and longevity. These Class 3 impact-rated shingles are built thicker than standard shingles and feature algae resistance, an upgraded tar strip, and a reinforced nailing zone, helping the roof stand up to hail, high winds, and harsh seasonal changes common in North Dakota.

Vita Roofing approached the project with attention to detail from start to finish. The existing roof was removed, the decking carefully inspected, and any damaged areas replaced to ensure a solid foundation. Extra protection was added with Ice & Water Shield along the eaves and valleys, synthetic underlayment across the roof surface, and aluminum drip edge to guide water safely away from the home.

The new roof system was completed with secure starter shingles, proper ventilation, and durable hip and ridge caps, all fastened for maximum wind resistance. After a thorough cleanup, Scott’s home was left with a clean, modern look and a roofing system built to perform for years, another example of Vita Roofing’s trusted roof replacement services in Grand Forks, ND.
